Fred Gui

I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Louisiana State University. In 2023-2024, I was a postdoctoral research associate at the Center for Effective Lawmaking, UVA. I received my Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Rochester in 2023, specializing in American political institutions and public policy. Some of my work has been published in Presidential Studies Quarterly and Interest Groups & Advocacy. Recently, a diverse team of scholars (myself as one of the corresponding authors) from both political science and computer science have launched political-LLM. For more details, you can check our website at https://political-llm.org/

Before starting my Ph.D. at Rochester, I completed my MA in International Studies at the Johns Hopkins SAIS. Prior to that, I received a BA in Business English from the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, where I was the winner of the Chancellor's Award. I also earned an MA in American Studies from the Beijing Foreign Studies University (did it as a dual degree with SAIS). Additionally, I worked as an editorial assistant at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace's DC office in 2017 and 2018. As one of the few international scholars specializing in American politics, I bring a distinctly unique, non-native perspective that enriches both my research and teaching.
